Astronomical Museum

The
Astronomical Museum exhibits a rich heritage related with the
development of Natural and Physical Sciences in Argentina, and
especially related with the different branches of Astronomy.
Among the material objects that compose the collection we can
mention:
* The
Monumental Building, main site of the Observatory and Museum,
corresponding to the architectural axis;
* A broad a
varied collection of astronomical, meteorological and physical
nstruments, (instrumental axis), including the historical
telescopes, namely:
a) the Respold Meridian Circle, exhibited in the main hall,
one of the few reminders of the original building of the
Observatory
b) the Gautier Double Astrograph, constructed for and used in
the making of the famous catalog and atlas "Carte du Ciel"
(Sky Map), in the end of XIX century. This telescope is
located in the North Wertern dome
c) the refracting Great Equatorial telescope, with its
objective lens of de 33
cm diameter, located in the North Eastern dome
d) the Tolles Telescope, used by B. Gould to perform some of
his first observations in Córdoba
e) an EXEMPLAR of Zollner´s photopolarimeter, used to
visually estimate both the brightness and color of the stars
* A gallery of
calculus facilities including calculators and computers oh
historical value (instrumental axis)
* Fotografías,
tanto de objetos astronómicos como relacionadas con la vida
institucional del Observatorio.
* Paneles
explicativos de eventos históricos y de diferentes temas
astronómicos.
* Historic
Documents (written), such as observation logs and reports
by Benjamin Gould and other pioneering astronomers,
letters sent between national authorities and the directors of
the Observatory since 1869, books, magazines,
administrative papers, etc.
